Grief engulfed residents of Gaitega Village in Murang’a County as they laid to rest members of Catholic Women Association (CWA) who perished in a road accident last week.

The six met their death in an accident along the Nyahururu-Nyeri Road at Marina area, on their way back to Murang’a from Subukia shrine where they had attended a prayer meeting.

The matatu was ferrying the women from St. Peter Gaitega Catholic Church when it was involved in an accident claiming the lives of Jacinta Mwaura, Jane Njeri Muiruri, Veronica Wambui, Jane Wanjiku, Mercy Waithera together with the driver Francis Manyeki.

The Victims laid to rest today in Muranga county.

The families of the six, who spoke during the joint requiem mass at Gaitega Primary School Grounds, eulogized them as devoted Christians who were committed to serving in the church and in various capacities in the community. The Mass was led by Archbishop Antony Muheria of the Nyeri Archdiocese and Bishop Joseph Mwongela of Kitui Diocese.

Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu, Governor Irungu Kang’ata, Women Representative Betty Maina and Nominated Member of Parliament Sabina Chege were among leaders from across the county who attended the funeral to condole with the families of the deceased.
