  • Captain Vincent Onyala led the charge, scoring the first try and inspiring his team to overcome an early deficit
  • The victory was sealed by Kevin Wekesa’s powerful final try, capping off a dominant performance

In a thrilling match that saw Kenya’s Shujaa team come from behind, Kenya defeated Germany 33-15 to secure their place in the World Rugby Sevens Series.

Germany had a dream start when Chris Umeh scored an unconverted try, giving them an early 5-0 lead.

However, Shujaa’s captain, Vincent Onyala, quickly responded by shaking off two defenders to score near the posts, with Anthony Omondi converting for a 7-5 lead.

Despite a setback with Chrissant Ojwang’s sin-binning for a dangerous head tackle, which allowed Germany’s Maximilian Heid to retake the lead at 10-7, Ojwang made amends upon his return by scoring to give Kenya a 12-10 advantage at halftime.

The second half saw further dominance from Kenya as John Okoth’s immediate impact after being substituted increased their lead to 19-10.

George Ooro and Brian Tanga’s collaboration resulted in Ooro scoring between the posts, extending the lead to 26-15. Finally, Kevin Wekesa sealed the victory with a powerful try, making the final score 33-15.

Shujaa captain Onyala expressed his pride and joy after the match, celebrating the team’s hard work and determination.
