  • Unpaid salaries could silence Radio Maisha, Spice FM, Berur FM, and Vybez Radio on July 3 as staff threaten to withdraw services
  • The radio team has demanded that June salaries be paid by July 2, with 30 percent of arrears paid monthly until all outstanding amounts are cleared
  • Failure to meet these demands will see all programming go off-air, marking a significant blow to one of Kenya’s leading media giants

Unresolved salaries, which have been an issue for months for the Mombasa Road-based media house Standard Media Group, could see operations at all its radio stations grind to a halt on July 3.

Staff from Radio Maisha, Spice FM, Berur FM, and Vybez Radio have threatened to withdraw their services if outstanding salaries are not cleared.

In a letter to the company’s management, the radio department highlighted inconsistent salary payments and demanded that June salaries be paid by July 2, with 30 percent of arrears paid monthly until all outstanding payments from June 2023 to August 2023 and February 2024 to June 2024 are settled.

They warned that if these demands are not met, all programming will go off-air on July 3 until their concerns are addressed and a written commitment is provided by the company.
