Parents Pour Moving Tributes As Memorial Service for 21 Endarasha Fire Victims is Held

  • It was a sombre Thursday as Kenyans gathered at Mwega Stadium in Nyeri to mourn the 21 pupils who tragically lost their lives in the Hillside Endarasha Academy fire

  • Parents clutched each other tightly, their tears flowing freely as they paid emotional tributes to their children, united in their profound sorrow

Nyeri was gripped by overwhelming sorrow as a long line of hearses slowly made its way into Mwiga Stadium, where an interdenominational memorial service for the 21 pupils of Hillside Endarasha Academy took place.

The students tragically perished in a dormitory fire on September 6, a devastating incident that left the country in mourning.

Emotions ran high as the 21 coffins, each representing a young life cut short, were carefully placed under a large tent.

Families, friends, and the Nyeri community gathered to pay their last respects, many unable to hold back tears.

Parents clung to each other, visibly shattered as they walked to the front to honor their children, their faces etched with unspeakable grief.

The somber atmosphere was palpable, with sobs and quiet prayers filling the air.

Each coffin was a heartbreaking reminder of the unspeakable loss, as mourners stared at the rows of caskets in disbelief.

The tragedy struck when a fire tore through the school dormitory, killing the 21 boys who were asleep.

The fire, which started on the night of September 5, engulfed the entire dormitory, where more than 150 students were housed.

Prominent figures, including Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka, and several high-ranking government officials, attended the service to offer their condolences.

Education CS Julius Ogamba and Basic Education CS Belio Kipsang represented the Ministry of Education.

Also present were Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, Nyeri Senator Wamatinga Wahome, and other local leaders.

Despite the strong presence of officials, the focus of the day was the unimaginable pain felt by the grieving families.

The crowd watched in silence as the families of the deceased gathered near the coffins, saying their final goodbyes.

The weight of loss hung over the stadium, leaving no eye dry as parents whispered tearful tributes to their beloved children.
