Chepngetich dedicated her historic win to fellow Kenyan marathoner Kelvin Kiptum, who tragically passed away in a car accident earlier this year.

“The world record has come back to Kenya, and I dedicate this to Kelvin,” she said in an emotional statement after the race.

Chepngetich’s performance, which commentators compared to a “moon landing” in its audacity, was met with astonishment as she maintained an unrelenting pace.
