  • An examination officer’s futile attempts to obtain a “mwakenya” from a KCSE student at Sironga Girls ended with her allegedly giving the student several slaps
  • The officer, Beatrice Kendi, reportedly accused the student of chewing something suspicious, but after repeated slaps, no unauthorized material was found
  • The distressed student later collapsed as the exam session concluded, prompting an investigation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) amid public outcry

A Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination room turned into a scene of chaos on Tuesday morning at Sironga Girls High School in Nyamira County, when a student reportedly fainted after being slapped multiple times by a Ministry of Education official.

The shocking incident has stirred a public uproar and is now under investigation by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

According to a police report, Beatrice Kendi, a quality assurance officer, entered the examination hall around 9 a.m. for a standard inspection when she noticed a student chewing something.

Suspicious, Kendi demanded the student reveal what she had in her mouth. Despite repeated slaps, Kendi reportedly failed to uncover any forbidden items or evidence to justify the search.

Following the slaps, the student remained visibly shaken and reportedly struggled to maintain composure as the examination continued.

Just as the session concluded at 10 a.m., she collapsed, causing a wave of panic among students and staff.

She was swiftly taken to the school dispensary for immediate first aid and was discharged shortly afterward.

The examination invigilator at the school confirmed the sequence of events, adding weight to the alarming claims.

The situation intensified as security and education officials rushed to the school to assess the incident, which has since sparked nationwide concern.

This disturbing episode comes only weeks after another tragic incident at Sironga Girls, where a Form Four student lost her life after reportedly jumping from a second-floor dormitory in an apparent accident.
