  • Netizens have reacted with mixed emotions after Murang’a MCA Hon. Mark G. Wainaina, who once mocked poor Kenyans, passed away just days after appealing for medical funds
  • His death from a severe pulmonary disease sparked a flood of ironic comments, with many online users reminding him of the harsh remarks he once made about the very people he now needed for help
  • While some expressed sympathy, others saw his passing as a harsh reminder of the karma that can come with arrogance

Nominated Murang’a MCA Hon. Mark G. Wainaina has died after battling a severe pulmonary disease that caused both of his lungs to fail.

The flamboyant MCA, who had gained notoriety for his controversial remarks belittling his poor constituents, passed away in the ICU, just days after appealing to the public for blood donations and medical funds.

Wainaina, who had previously mocked the struggles of everyday Kenyans living in poverty, found himself in a position of desperation this week as he was forced to seek donations for his own medical expenses.

His call for support was met with a mixed reaction on social media, with many users turning to his past comments to highlight the irony of his situation.

Social media users were quick to dig up Wainaina’s past posts, in which he ridiculed the very people he now turned to for help.

His previous tweets and public statements mocking the poor and downtrodden have sparked a heated online debate, with many questioning how it felt for the MCA to now find himself needing the very assistance he once belittled.

Social Media Reactions:

“Ndio hiyo ni karma! Anacheka masikini, leo yeye mwenyewe ameomba msaada. Hii dunia ni ya mzunguko.”

— @JabariKe

“Hii ni lesson kubwa! Wakubwa waingie chini ya mti na watafakari. Pole kwa familia lakini tumejua wapi tunajiweka.”

— @Kwamboka_Ke

“Huyu alikuwa akicheka maisha ya wengine, leo ataenda wapi? Karma inafanya kazi, pole kwa familia lakini tuko na maswali.”

— @Mwananchi_Ng

“Kama alivyosema, maisha ya chini ndio ya kila mtu. Leo amekutana nayo kwa miguu yake.”

— @NderituKiama

While some expressed sympathy for the late MCA’s family, many others felt that Wainaina’s passing was a stark reminder of how leaders should treat their electorate with dignity and respect.

Others noted the bitter irony that someone who had scorned the poor ended up needing their support in his final days.

The late MCA had organized a fundraising event for Friday, November 15, 2024, to help cover his medical costs, but sadly, he did not survive long enough to see the fundraiser take place.
