  • A family in Nyamira County has been unable to bury their loved one for over seven months due to an unpaid medical bill of Ksh. 370,000 at St. Clare’s Kaplong Mission Hospital
  • Despite raising Ksh. 200,000 through fundraisers, the hospital has refused to release the body until the full amount is settled, leaving the grieving family in despair
  • The family has pleaded with the hospital to waive the remaining balance, but with no resolution in sight, they continue to mourn in isolation

A Nyamira family has been unable to bury their beloved Tabitha Kemunto for over seven months due to a Ksh. 370,000 medical bill still pending at St. Clare’s Kaplong Mission Hospital in Kericho.

Kemunto, who passed away on May 5th, had been receiving treatment at the hospital for several months before her death, but despite raising Ksh. 200,000 through fundraisers, the family has not been able to settle the remaining balance, leaving her body detained at the hospital.

In an emotional plea, the family has asked the hospital to waive the remaining bill, allowing them to finally lay their loved one to rest.

However, the hospital has insisted on full payment before releasing the body.

The situation has left the grieving family isolated and in despair, as friends and neighbors have stopped visiting, leaving them to mourn in solitude.

“We are struggling to even gather the money for burial, and no one is helping,” said Tabitha’s son, Brian Siko.

As the family continues to appeal for help, the community remains in anguish, hoping for a resolution that will allow them to say their final goodbyes and bring closure to this prolonged and painful ordeal.

“We are asking for justice, for help. The children and family have been suffering, and the body of their mother still lies in the morgue,” said Mary Mogire, a concerned neighbor.
