Azziad Nassenya, Awinja Win Big During Women in Film Awards

Renowned digital maven Azziad Nasenya and acclaimed actress Awinja were among the Kenyan trailblazers who clinched prestigious accolades at the recently concluded Women in Film Awards (WIFA).

The gala, hosted at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development, aimed to celebrate women excelling in various facets of the film industry, be it as luminous performers or adept screenwriters.

Taking to her Instagram, Azziad joyously shared her gratitude, expressing delight that her fans not only recognized her talent but also bestowed upon her the honor of receiving such distinguished awards.

 At just 22, Azziad’s journey has been illustrious, from her debut on Maisha Magic East to her current captivating portrayal as Cecilia in Showmax’s Pink Ladies show.

Amidst a gathering of luminaries like Celestine Gichuhia, Azziad was crowned Best Actress in a TV Drama, a feat bolstered by her recent standout performance in Pink Ladies.

Meanwhile, the celebrated actress and creator Jacky Vike, fondly known as Awinja, also clinched a coveted award for Best Digital Content Creator, although she was unable to attend.

She joyfully shared the news on her Instagram while in Western Kenya, eagerly preparing for the premiere of her new television show, Disco Matanga.

 Awinja’s victory marked a triumph over other esteemed digital creators, including Chebet Ronoh, Ciku Muriuki, Murugi Munyinamd, and Dorea Chege, whose contributions were also celebrated during the event.

The gala witnessed the presence of numerous female luminaries and creators, including Wixx Mangutha, Nyokafu Gathuo, Ciku Muchiri, and Celestine Gachuhi.

Notable awardees included Pambo Mei, Mwara Kungu, who clinched the Best Female Animator award, Victoria Goro, Grace Irungu, and Lynn Gitau, who were honored for their directorial prowess in student films.

Founded by film producer Dr. Susan Gitimu, the event garnered significant support from ratified stakeholders and key players in the film industry, including the Kenya Film Commission Board and Sanaa Academy.
