Wycliffe Okumu, the Kenyan-American doctor who went missing during his Cross-African tour, has been found safe and sound in Mali.

The news of his safe recovery was confirmed by sources close to the family yesterday evening.

Okumu is currently at the US Embassy in Mali, reuniting with loved ones after days of uncertainty and worry.

The ordeal began when Okumu, a resident of North Carolina, Charlotte, embarked on his ambitious journey across Africa, starting from South Africa, driving a white Defender KBX.

 However, concern escalated when he failed to return as scheduled on March 17th.

His last known location was traced to Segou, Mali, with his last communication being a WhatsApp message sent to family members on March 9th, followed by a voice call on March 8th.

The distressing situation prompted a plea for assistance from Dr. Joacquem Ogindo, Okumu’s colleague, who reached out to the public and social media influencers in a desperate attempt to gather information and aid in the search efforts.

With Okumu’s extensive social media presence spanning across nations, including his active Facebook profile, the hope was to leverage these platforms to connect with Malian social media influencers and their followers to gather any possible leads on his whereabouts.

The plea for assistance quickly gained traction as concerned individuals shared Okumu’s flier widely, and those on the ground in Mali mobilized their networks to intensify the search efforts.

The collective efforts and social media outreach played a crucial role in putting pressure on authorities and increasing awareness about Okumu’s disappearance.

Grateful for the outpouring of support, Dr. Ogindo expressed his gratitude to everyone who contributed to the search efforts, acknowledging the pivotal role of social media in spreading the word and rallying support.
