Joseph Azuza: DusitD2 Attack Hero Tragically Ends His Life After Mother’s Death

In a heart-wrenching turn of events, Joseph Azuza Chama, revered for his valor during the DusitD2 attack, met a tragic end following the passing of his beloved mother, Mary Anael Chama.

43 year-old Azuza had displayed unmatched courage during the harrowing DusitD2 attack on January 15, 2019, where he confronted heavily armed terrorists, saving countless lives.

 His heroism garnered admiration from colleagues and the public alike, with President Uhuru Kenyatta acknowledging the pivotal role played by elite GSU officers like Azuza in neutralizing the jihadist threat.

Despite his remarkable bravery on the battlefield, Azuza found himself overwhelmed by the profound grief of losing his mother, who succumbed to illness on March 5, 2024.

Friends and family revealed that the absence of his mother proved insurmountable for Azuza, ultimately leading to his untimely demise.

The tragic events unfolded on the day Azuza went to pay his final respects to his late mother at Kenyatta Funeral Services home.

 However, he was unable to view her body, compounding his anguish. Overwhelmed by grief, Azuza leaped from a moving taxi near Muthaiga on Thika Road.

Although he initially survived the fall, he was struck by oncoming vehicles after rolling back onto the road, meeting his tragic end.

Witnesses recounted the heartbreaking scene, describing Azuza’s desperation and futile attempt to escape his overwhelming sorrow.

It was revealed that he was accompanied by a PAG priest, Chama Enos Anzigare, and his brother at the time of the Incident.

Close friends and family spoke of Azuza’s deep bond with his mother, highlighting the profound impact of her loss on him.

Jeff Makalua Otieno, a friend, reminisced, “She was both a mother and a friend to him,” emphasizing the depth of their relationship.

Colleagues reflected on Azuza’s vulnerability in the face of tragedy, emphasizing the poignant reminder that loss and grief transcend even the bravest among us.

 Despite his decorated career as a police officer and captain of the Red Berets, Azuza’s tragic demise serves as a somber testament to the devastating toll of grief.

Azuza, who joined Red Berrets FC in 1998 before being recruited into the police in 1999, was remembered for his discipline and dedication.

 He played a pivotal role during the DusitD2 attack and later served as a security officer for the United Nations.

“He was somebody you could count on,” remarked Otieno, reflecting on Azuza’s unwavering commitment to his duties.

Joseph Azuza and his mother were laid to rest on a somber Saturday, leaving behind a legacy of bravery and a profound impact on those who knew them.
