  • In response to the crash of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) chopper in the Sindar area, a multi-agency team has been dispatched to search for belongings of the deceased soldiers
  • These items are not only crucial for the ongoing investigation into the tragedy but also hold significance in honoring the families’ requests
  • Locals, being the first to arrive at the scene, have reportedly absconded with various personal effects of the KDF soldiers, including shoes, watches, and mobile phones
  • Recent activity on the missing mobile phones suggests they are being intermittently powered on and off within the village

In the aftermath of the tragic chopper crash that claimed the life of Chief of Defence Forces Francis Ogolla and nine other officers, a multi-agency team has been deployed to the crash site in Sindar area.

The incident, which occurred on Thursday, April 18, between West Pokot and Elgeyo Marakwet counties, left behind a trail of sorrow and unanswered questions.

Locals, who were the first respondents at the scene, reportedly made off with shoes, watches, and mobile phones belonging to the KDF soldiers.

Among the missing items is General Ogolla’s cherished Bible, a poignant symbol of his faith and dedication.

His daughter, Lorna Omondi, has made a heartfelt plea to the KDF, hoping for the return of her father’s Bible, which he treasured and read cover to cover every year.

In 2022, a particularly challenging year for him, General Ogolla reportedly found solace in the scriptures, reading the entire Bible twice.

However, the search is not without its challenges.

Traces of the missing mobile phones have been detected within the village, indicating that they may have fallen into local hands.

In response, police officers, chiefs, and Nyumba Kumi elders have been mobilized to persuade locals to return these items, recognizing their importance both as evidence in the investigation and as precious mementos for the grieving families.
