Five Lives Lost After Heavy Rains Wreak Havoc In Embu

Five individuals have tragically lost their lives in the floods that have ravaged Embu County amidst the relentless downpour, as revealed by County Commissioner Jack Obuo.

The fatalities occurred in various locations, with two victims succumbing to the raging waters in Evurore, situated in Embu Mbeere North, another two in Mwea, Mbeere South, and one in Embu West.

The County Commissioner emphasized the diligent surveillance being conducted by the County Disaster Management Committee, particularly in the 16 vulnerable villages.

The villages have been threatened by flooding, where the confluence of River Thura and River Tana poses imminent danger.

The situation has been exacerbated by the back-flow of River Thura, induced by the formidable force of River Tana, which surged following the recent spillage from the Seven Forks Dams, a development observed over the past two days.

Furthermore, heightened vigilance extends to areas susceptible to landslides, primarily along the upper reaches of the county bordering the expanse of Mt Kenya Forest.

Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and prepared to evacuate swiftly should any ground fractures emerge.
