Uasin Gishu Man Who Worked as Mkokoteni Rider Becomes KDF Soldier

A man from Uasin Gishu, who previously worked in menial jobs with little hope of finding better opportunities, has transformed his life by graduating as a KDF officer.

His inspiring story was shared on Facebook by influencer Victor Rotich, who posted past photos of the man, Mr. Silas Koech.

In one photo, Koech is seen carrying a large sack of cabbages on his shoulders while working in a shamba, his white clothes dirtied from the fieldwork.

This image highlights the challenging conditions he endured before his remarkable rise.

Koech’s journey is a compelling example of rising from humble beginnings to success.

He progressed from being a carrier man to a mkokoteni rider, then to a bodaboda rider, and finally to joining the Kenya Army.

His ascent was facilitated by Uasin Gishu County Governor Mr. Bii Chelilim, who took Koech under his wing and helped him enter the Kenya Defense Forces.

In shared photos, Koech is also seen carrying a 90kg sack of onions while wearing an apron during his days of doing menial jobs, and sitting atop a bodaboda waiting for customers in town.

The final photo shows him looking neat and happy in his KDF uniform, moments after graduating in a pass out ceremony recently overseen by President William Ruto.
