  • Defence CS Aden Duale celebrated his cabinet reappointment with a lavish party, sparking disapproval from Kenyans
  • Exclusive videos show Somali men and women dancing at the extravagant event, which featured a grand dais and a banner proclaiming Duale as ‘Simba’
  • Some Kenyans said the President had duped them as the event was set even before he made the reappointment announcement, while others shaded Duale for hosting Somali’s only

Hours after President William Ruto announced his new cabinet nominees and former Defence CS Aden Duale confirmed his reappointment, Duale held a lavish party to celebrate the occasion.

Exclusive photos and videos have emerged of the extravagant event, featuring a banner referring to Duale as ‘Simba’ and announcing his return. In front of the banner was an opulent dais adorned with flowers and disco lights stretching from one end to the other.

A leaked video showed Somali men and women dancing on stage, with the event exclusively attended by Somalis.

The celebration was exceedingly lavish, held in a grand conference room with white couches trimmed in gold for the leaders, separated a few meters from where the people sat.

In another clip, a Somali artist performed to the elated crowd, with more attendees, clad in hijabs, continuing to flow in.

In a section of the video where the artist performed, part of the crowd is seen holding printed papers with Duale’s picture and the Kenyan flag, captioned ‘Simba is back,’ similar to the banner at the front.

Kenyans Dissaprove Duale’s Move

Kenyans expressed their disapproval of Duale’s celebration, questioning why he would host such a lavish and ethnically exclusive event while the nation grapples with issues of misappropriation of funds and poor governance.

Some noted that the event appeared to have been planned before President Ruto announced the new cabinet nominees, suggesting that both the president and Duale were deceiving Kenyans into believing there was careful consideration in the reappointments.

Others criticized the ethnic exclusivity of the celebration, noting it was ethically wrong to host such an event solely for his tribe.

Here are some comments from the clips and videos:
