Agritech Innovators to Converge in Kigali for AYuTe Next Gen Gathering

  • Next month, Kigali will host the inaugural AYuTe Next Gen gathering, showcasing young African agritech innovators and their tech-driven solutions

Next month, Kigali will host a groundbreaking event for young African agritech innovators, showcasing tech-driven solutions that promise to revolutionize the agricultural sector across the continent.

Heifer International, a global nonprofit dedicated to ending hunger and poverty through sustainable agriculture, announced that the inaugural AYuTe Next Gen gathering will take place on June 11, 2024.

Themed “Reimagining Africa’s Agriculture for the next 50,” this event will bring together young agritech innovators, agripreneurs, and key stakeholders from Africa’s agriculture and youth development sectors.

The AYuTe Africa Next Gen initiative, launched by Heifer International in 2021, aims to harness the innovative and entrepreneurial spirit of Africa’s youth to tackle challenges faced by smallholder farmers and foster agricultural development.

Heifer International is celebrating significant milestones this year, marking 80 years of supporting smallholder farmers globally and 50 years of impactful work in Africa.

The organization collaborates with governments, donors, partners, and communities to enhance the agricultural ecosystem.

The AYuTe Next Gen event will celebrate these achievements by inspiring a new generation of agripreneurs and innovators with a forward-looking vision for the next 50 years of agricultural transformation.

Adesuwa Ifedi, Senior Vice President of Africa Programs at Heifer International, emphasized the importance of the event:

“The AYuTe Next Gen gathering provides agripreneurs, policymakers, investors, innovators, and other key stakeholders with the opportunity to witness young African innovators in agriculture pitching their ideas. We seek to identify and reward the top performers with cash prizes and the technical support they need to scale their innovations.”

The event will feature winners from AYuTe national competitions held in various countries, who will compete for top regional prizes.

These finalists were selected through a rigorous screening and technical assessment process. Their innovations will be evaluated by a panel of judges, and the winners will be announced at the gathering.

Dayo Aduroja, Africa Youth and Innovation Lead at Heifer International, highlighted the ongoing impact of the AYuTe initiative: “Every innovator within the AYuTe ecosystem is a winner.

Our collaborations with them give us front row seats to the impact of their tech-driven solutions for smallholder farmers’ challenges.

The AYuTe Next Gen gathering is another opportunity for stakeholders to see what we see and support the market introduction of home-grown technology and innovation that powers our smallholder farmers to increased productivity and incomes.”

Heifer International has worked with over 46 million people worldwide since its inception in 1944, aiming to end hunger and poverty in a sustainable manner.

For the past 50 years, it has been active in Africa, supporting farmers and local food producers to improve their livelihoods.
