  • Renowned Kenyan singer Akothee, has unveiled a heart-wrenching tale of son’s tragic passing years ago
  • In a recent statement, the 43-year-old artist shared the heartbreaking loss of her son, Retreat Roberts Woody Otieno, who tragically departed at the tender age of eight months
  •  Akothee candidly revealed the challenges she faced as a young mother, expressing regret over the lack of financial resources to provide adequate medical care for her child at the time

Kenya’s well-known singer and entrepreneur, Esther Akoth, popularly known as Akothee, has revealed details about the death of her child that occurred many years ago.

In a statement on Monday, the 43-year-old artist disclosed that her son, Retreat Roberts Woody Otieno, passed away at just eight months old.

Akothee stated that, at that time, she was still young and did not have the financial means to seek appropriate medical treatment for the child.

“Oh, sometimes I feel like my child would have survived if I had the money to take him to the hospital. As a young mother, I lost my handsome son at the age of eight months. I am still sure that Retreat Roberts would be alive if I were mature, revealed more and had money for medical treatment,” Akothee wrote in a heartbreaking statement on Monday.

The mother of five continued to mourn her late son but did not provide many details about the cause of his death.

She discussed the painful incident while celebrating the medical success of another young child named Sharon, who had not walked since birth three years ago.

“Today, we have good news from RFH. SHARON IS WALKING, CHASING PEOPLE AWAY, AND NOW MOM HAS TO CHASE HER. Sharon, who was always left at home when people went to other places,” she said.

In her previous statements, Akothee had revealed that the late Roberts Woody Otieno was her second-born and was buried behind the farm where she lived with her daughters Vesha Awuor, Celine Aggry, Prudence Vanpelt, and her ex-husband Jared Okello.

At the end of 2022, the 43-year-old musician lost what would have been her sixth child due to a miscarriage.

In September of last year, she posted an emotional video showing her holding a newborn baby, trying to comfort the infant while engaging in conversation with the child’s mother.

In her statement, she mentioned that the infant reminded her of the child she would have had with her husband Denis ‘Omosh’ Shweizer, who was expected to give birth in July of last year but unfortunately lost the pregnancy in December.

“This child reminded me that our child would have been one month and a week old today. I had to remind my husband on our big day, July 22,” Akothee said.

At the same time, she admitted that they still did not know what happened until they lost the pregnancy but revealed that they are still trying again.

“I don’t know what happened; we are still trying,” she said.
