  • Azziad Nasenya has refuted claims that she was selected as a “ghost athlete” by Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba for the 2024 Paris Olympics
  • Taking to Instagram, Nasenya clarified that she is not part of Kenya’s delegation to the Games and emphasized that her recent trips, including one to Dubai, were privately financed
  • This came after Kenyans on X raised suspicion that sports CS Ababu Namwamba would carry joyriders to the Olympics at the expense of taxpayers money, and that Azziad was part of them

TikTok star and actress Azziad Nasenya has taken to Instagram to address recent controversies surrounding allegations that she was selected as a “ghost athlete” by Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba for the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics.

With a substantial following exceeding 2.3 million, Nasenya categorically denied any involvement in the Kenyan delegation set to travel to Paris under government auspices.

“I am not part of the Kenya delegation to the Paris Olympics 2024,” Nasenya asserted in her Instagram statement, addressing widespread misinformation circulating online.

She clarified her previous association with the Ministry of Youth Affairs, particularly her role in the now-disbanded Creatives Technical Committee of the Talanta Hela Council.

Nasenya also addressed the controversy surrounding her recent trip to Dubai, emphasizing that it was fully funded by the organizers of the #VisitDubai campaign and not by Kenyan taxpayers.

“My travel to Dubai and other places have been financed by myself, clients, or family, and never, as numerously claimed, by the Government of Kenya,” Nasenya clarified.

Her statement comes amidst mounting public pressure on Sports CS Ababu Namwamba to disclose the full list of individuals traveling to Paris for the Olympics, amid concerns over potential misuse of public funds.

Nasenya’s proactive response aims to dispel rumors and ensure transparency in her engagements, reiterating her commitment to responsible representation and accountability in both her career and social advocacy efforts.

In addition to addressing the controversies, Nasenya expressed solidarity with her generation in advocating for government accountability and extended condolences to families affected by recent incidents of police brutality.

“As a Gen Z, I am proud of all that we have accomplished in addressing government accountability,” she commented. “My heart goes out to the families who lost their loved ones while we fought for the future of our country.”
