Kenya has suffered blow after the United States informed the United Nations (UN) that plans are underway to freeze critical funds meant for an ongoing peacekeeping mission in Haiti.

According to UN spokesperson Stephanie Dujarric the US had informed that it will freeze Sh1.7 billion meant to support the officers.

“We received an official notification from the United States asking for the immediate stop work order on the mission contribution,” Dujarric said in a press statement.

It is worth noting that the peacekeeping mission was brokered between President William Ruto of Kenya and former US President Joe Biden.

However, when President Donald Trump was voted in as the US Head of State he announced that he will be halting foreign aid.

It is worth noting that the US is the biggest funder of the peacekeeping mission.

The announcement to cut financial support was made at a time when troops from El Salvador had arrived in the Caribbean based nation.

The Salvadoran forces landed at the Toussaint Louverture International Airport where they were received by the mission’s top command.

The MSS team Is expecting arrival of helicopters which are expected there by the end of the week.

Other countries that have their officers in Haiti include; Kenya, Jamaica, Guatemala, the Bahamas and Belize. This comes at a time when the United States of America (USA) has cut it’s donation to the mission.
