  • Dorcas Rigathi has exhorted parents to show love and acceptance to their disabled children rather than keeping them hidden in their homes, fearing what the public will say
  • The second lady explained that keeping these kids confined in houses is a self-defeating move as it deprives them of the much-needed chance to show off their knowledge, skills, and talents
  •  Dorcas gave comfort to people with impairments, assuring them that they had potential to be successful in life and that they should take on the world in boundless ways

Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, wife of Kenya’s Deputy President, visited Kizurini Comprehensive School in Kilifi County, and during her visit, she urged parents of children with disabilities to prioritize education for their children’s growth.

Pastor Rigathi emphasized the importance of love and opportunity and spoke badly about the practice of hiding children with disabilities at home, arguing that it hinders them from showcasing their abilities and potential.

She praised parents who brought their children to the school, calling them “wonderful people” for embracing God’s gifts.

She addressed the children with disabilities directly, stating, “There is no limitation to your ability to conquer the world in various fields.”She said.

She encouraged them to attend school and pursue their full potential. Pastor Rigathi concluded by expressing her pride in being their “mother.”

Beyond words, Dorcas also donated essential items including foodstuffs, white canes, tricycles, and personal effects.

Kenya’s Special Olympics Team in Attendance

The event was attended by members of Kenya’s Special Olympics team, a group Pastor Rigathi actively supports.

The team is comprised of individuals with intellectual disabilities and is currently preparing for the 2025 Winter Olympics in Italy.

They previously achieved success at the 2023 Berlin Olympics, winning 25 medals with Pastor Rigathi by their side as patron and cheerleader.

News reports indicate that some team members from the Berlin games were even able to use their winnings for investments like land and buildings.

The team’s coach, Nicholas Kai, expressed gratitude for Pastor Rigathi’s support during the Olympics.

He echoed her message, urging parents to embrace and care for their children with disabilities.

Pastor Dorcas Rigathi’s Commitment to Vulnerable Populations

Kaloleni DCC Mugo Gachiri commended Pastor Rigathi’s ongoing efforts to improve the lives of vulnerable populations in Kenya, saying that the initiative aligns with one of the four pillars of her work as the Deputy President’s spouse.

Her visit to Kilifi County is part of a week-long program focused on various vulnerable groups, including boys, widows, and people with disabilities.

Additionally, her activities included a two-day free medical camp in Mbudzi, a remote area of Kilifi County.

Earlier in the week, she met with Governor Gideon Mung’aro, who pledged to support her programs within the county. The First Lady of Kilifi County, Susan Mung’aro, also joined Pastor Rigathi throughout her visit and expressed her commitment to collaborating on efforts that improve the lives of vulnerable populations in Kilifi.

Elsewhere, the first lady weeped as she recounted a gruesome scenario she came face-to-face with in Migori, where widows were working as sexual workers to provide for their children.
