  • Comedian-turned-activist Eric Omondi has triumphantly finished building the viral bridge that recently seized the public’s attention
  • The bridge, now dubbed Baby Kemunto Bridge, drew widespread notice following a viral video featuring young Shirleen Kemunto bravely crossing it
  • Celebrating the milestone with his fans on Instagram, Eric Omondi shared an exhilarating video of himself and the courageous young girl cutting the ribbon to formally inaugurate the upgraded bridge

Comedian-turned-activist Eric Omondi has completed the construction of the viral bridge that recently captured the attention of the public.

The bridge which is now named Baby Kemunto Bridge, gained attention after a video surfaced showing a small girl, Shirleen Kemunto bravely crossing over it.

Taking to Instagram to share the exciting news with his fans, Eric Omondi posted a video showcasing himself and the young girl walking over the newly upgraded bridge.

“Kemunto bridge is complete. This young girl has changed a whole community. She is a hero. This bridge is not only historical but also extremely symbolic. It symbolizes a people’s resolve, it symbolizes the power in unity!”

“We are bridging the gaps. The gaps between the poor and the wealthy must and can be minimized and diminished. We are bridging the gaps created by political and tribal divisions. Team sisi kwa sisi nothing is impossible!!! Together everything is achievable!!!”

Deadly bridge

Throughout the project, Eric Omondi had rallied Kenyans to join hands in fundraising efforts to support the construction of the bridge.

“The heartwrenching video of the young girl courageously crossing the bridge of death is from Nyakumbati village in Kisii county. The girl is called Shirleen and the father is called Fred Ogata Mogire. The community has so far tried to reinforce the bridge but it’s not good enough,” Omondi said.

“The wood is rotten, shaky and unsafe. It’s just a matter of time before it collapses into tragedy. We are going to build this bridge today!!! Start sending whatever you can to Shirleen’s father 0722115399,” he stated.

In the video that sparked outrage, little Shirleen was seen trembling while attempting to navigate the bridge over a swollen river on her journey to school.

Eric Omondi and his supporters blamed politicians for what they deemed as gross negligence.

They said that local politicians had let down their constituents by exposing them to perilous conditions.

Critics also aimed the video’s creator, condemning them for recklessness and insensitivity towards the safety of the child.

“How do these leaders even sleep at night??? So this little girl faces death every morning. If he makes one small mistake, that’s it, WE LOSE HIM!!! This child can lose his life just because of a GREEDY, GLORIOUS and MURDERER!!!” he stated at the time.
