  • Daadab MP Farah Maalim has categorically dismissed a viral video allegedly showing him threatening Generation Z, calling it doctored and manipulated
  • Maalim clarified that the controversial video, trending on X, distorted his remarks about recent anti-Finance Bill protests, insisting his comments were taken out of context
  • In the viral clip, the MP is heard saying that he would have killed over 5000 Gen Zs were he the president they were protesting against, attracting backlash in troves

Daadab Member of Parliament Farah Maalim has dismissed a viral video that seemingly shows him threatening Generation Z individuals over recent anti-Finance Bill protests.

The video, which began trending on X on Tuesday, July 9, purportedly quoted Maalim saying he would have killed 5000 Gen Zs if he were the current president.

However, Maalim has labeled the clip as fake, claiming it was doctored by unknown individuals from Somalia to misrepresent his statements.

According to Maalim, the video is a product of cutting and pasting, where words were taken out of context to create a misleading narrative.

“The video making the rounds has been edited. It’s all cutting and pasting, taking a word from here and putting it together.

It is Somalis who basically would do that, for other reasons, because I also weighed in on the politics of Somalia,” Maalim explained during an interview on KTN News.

He clarified that the mention of 5000 was actually in reference to a book launch, not a threat against Gen Zs.

Maalim also addressed the Gen Z protests against the Finance Bill, stating that his only issue with the demonstrators was their threat to occupy protected areas such as the State House, which he equated to a coup attempt.

“In a sense, when you say that you’re taking over a statehouse, you’re occupying a statehouse, and you’re occupying parliament, two constitutional institutions that are a bedrock of the stability of the country, and the democracy that we practice, which is essentially what we do every five years. To determine who is going to be the people who will run the system. And then you come and take it over. That is a coup. There’s no question about that,” he said.
