Former Riruta MCA Samuel Njoroge Sentenced to 30 Years in Prison for Murder of His Wife

  • Former member of county assembly (MCA) for Riruta Ward, Samuel Ndungu Njoroge, alongside two accomplices, Joyce Njambi Mungai and Wilson Mwangi Munyua, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison

In a landmark verdict, former member of county assembly (MCA) for Riruta Ward, Samuel Ndungu Njoroge, alongside two accomplices, Joyce Njambi Mungai and Wilson Mwangi Munyua, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for the murder of Lucy Njambi Nyagiko.

The tragic incident, marked by abduction, rape, and a sulfuric acid assault, occurred on January 24, 2018, in Kiambu County.

The Honorable Justice (Prof) Joel Ngugi of Kiambu High Court delivered the verdict, emphasizing the heinous nature of the crime as an extreme act of domestic violence and femicide.

The prosecution presented compelling evidence, including testimonies from 38 witnesses, which painted a grim picture of jealousy and aggression leading to the brutal demise of Nyagiko.

According to Justice Ngugi, the evidence showcased a disturbing pattern of jealousy and aggression on the part of Samuel Njoroge, the primary orchestrator of the crime.

 The involvement of the other two accused individuals was also substantiated, with Mungai purchasing the sulfuric acid used in the attack and Munyua being traced near the crime scene via mobile phone data records.

Lucy Nyagiko’s abduction from her home in Thindigua estate, followed by rape and acid assault, shocked the nation.

Despite heroic efforts by a Good Samaritan and medical personnel, Nyagiko succumbed to her injuries on January 26, 2018.
