  • Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has accused the National Intelligence Service (NIS) of secretly trailing him from Nairobi to a funeral service in Makueni County
  • Gachagua claimed on social media that an NIS officer followed him to monitor his speech and actions, terming the move a waste of public resources
  • He argued that officers already stationed in Makueni could have carried out the task instead of wasting fuel and time to trail him

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has taken a swipe at the National Intelligence Service (NIS), accusing the agency of secretly deploying an officer to trail him from Nairobi to a funeral in Makueni County.

Speaking through his social media accounts on Thursday, December 19, Gachagua revealed that the NIS operative followed him to Mbooni, where he was attending the funeral of Bishop Dr. Francis Mulinge’s matriarch, Agnes Mwikali Muiya.

Gachagua claimed the officer’s role was to monitor his every move, listen to his speech, and record it, a task he deemed unnecessary and a misuse of taxpayer money.

“It was pointless to waste fuel and man hours having him follow us all the way from Nairobi to Makueni yesterday. It would save public funds to detail your officers in Makueni to listen to what I’m saying, record, and send to you instead of wasting public resources,” he stated.

Despite the controversy surrounding his visit, Gachagua remained steadfast in his critique, urging the government to adopt more prudent resource management practices.

This is not the first time Gachagua has raised concerns about his security and alleged surveillance by state agencies.
