  • A Nairobi court has summoned Kasarani DCIO Paul Makonge to appear on June 5 regarding the missing police file in DJ Brownskin’s case
  •  DJ Brownskin, real name Michael Macharia Njiiri, is charged with aiding his wife Sharon Njeri’s suicide on July 29, 2022
  •  The court expressed frustration over the absent file and witnesses, noting the case’s public interest and threatening an arrest warrant if the summons is ignored

A Nairobi court has issued a summons for Kasarani DCIO Paul Makonge to appear on June 5 regarding the failure to produce a critical police file in the case against DJ Brownskin, alias Michael Macharia Njiiri.

The proceedings took place at Milimani Law Courts before Principal Magistrate Gilbert Shikwe.

DJ Brownskin faces charges of aiding his wife Sharon Njeri’s suicide on July 29, 2022.

When the matter was brought up for hearing on Thursday, it was revealed that the police file was missing, and the investigating officer was not present.

This absence prompted the prosecution to seek an adjournment and request the summons for DCIO Makonge.

“The investigating officer has been transferred, and there is no police file or witness present in court. We seek an adjournment and request summons for the DCIO Kasarani to appear in court,” stated the prosecution.

Defense lawyer Duncan Okatch criticized the delays, noting this was the second time the hearing could not proceed due to the missing file.

Magistrate Shikwe acknowledged the case’s public interest and expressed concern over the lack of documentation and witnesses.

“I issue orders to summon the DCIO Kasarani to appear in court on June 5 to explain the whereabouts of the police file, failure to which I will issue a warrant of arrest,” ruled Magistrate Shikwe.

Njiiri, who has denied the charges, faces multiple counts including aiding his wife’s suicide, failing to prevent her suicide despite knowing her intentions, and destroying evidence from his phone on June 1, 2023, knowing it would be required in judicial proceedings.

The deceased’s father was scheduled to testify but could not due to the adjournment.

The case will be mentioned again on June 5, as the court seeks clarity on the missing police file and proceeds with this high-profile matter.
