  • A Kenyan boy sent home for school fees captured hearts online after sharing that he found barely no food at home and his mother very sick
  • Known as Ellie Marambei on TikTok, his emotional video prompted an outpouring of support, with viewers asking for his school’s paybill number and personal M-Pesa to send help
  • Many sympathized, sharing their own stories of growing up and facing similar struggles, and vowed to ensure he stayed in school

A Kenyan boy, sent home from school due to unpaid fees, has touched many hearts online with his heartbreaking story. Upon returning home, he found his mother very sick and no food to eat.

The boy, known as Ellie Marambei on TikTok, shared a video of himself in a matatu (public transport) as he headed back to school, despite the dire situation at home.

Wearing his school uniform, his emotional post, set to a soothing gospel song, nearly brought some viewers to tears.

An elderly man, suspected to be his grandfather, is seen sitting next to him in the video, possibly accompanying him to plead with his teachers for his continued stay in school.

Ellie explained that his mother’s health had deteriorated and their living conditions had worsened, leaving them without food.

Netizens Show Sympathy

The video, which has garnered over 70,000 likes, drew an outpouring of sympathy and support from viewers.

One commenter, Christine, expressed deep sorrow for the boy and urged others to donate at least 100 Kshs to him instead of offering empty words of encouragement.

Another user, Sheha Mungai, asked for the boy’s school admission number and class to help cover his fees.

Many others requested his personal Mpesa number or school account details to send assistance.

Discrepancy Emerges as Boy Raises School Fees

As support poured in, some noticed a discrepancy in the amount of school fees the boy mentioned.

Initially, he stated his fees were 17,500 Kshs, but later, as more people expressed a desire to help, he claimed it was 25,000 Kshs.
