Mr. Charles Ombidi, a Kenyan resident of Mathare North, emotionally recounted the devastating loss of his sister and her two children to floods, leaving their family shattered.

In a documentary by NTV, Charles vividly recalled the tragic sequence of events.

He recounted how his mother, who had come to Nairobi for medical treatment, narrowly escaped the torrents by being swept to safety in an unexpected direction.

On that ill-fated day, Charles’s sister had ventured out to take their visiting mother to the hospital.

As heavy rains pounded the neighborhood from evening till morning, chaos ensued, and houses were inundated.

Despite a nagging feeling to check on his mother and sister, Charles decided to wait until morning when their phones became unreachable.

Upon reaching their home the next morning, Charles was shocked to find water reaching chest-high levels, with only rooftops visible amidst the deluge.

Realizing the severity of the situation, Charles searched desperately for any sign of his family.

After five agonizing hours, his worst fears were confirmed when his sister’s body was found.

The search for her elder child yielded similar heartbreaking results.

Tragically, the youngest child’s body remained missing, leading Charles to the city mortuary where he found it in a grievous state, a victim of the relentless rains.

With heavy hearts, the family faced the grim reality of burying three of their own.

Adding to their anguish, Charles’s mother sustained a serious leg injury, further burdened by the exorbitant medical costs they cannot afford.

Mathare, among the hardest-hit areas in Nairobi, continues to grapple with the aftermath of the floods, with more casualties being uncovered.

Charles appealed for assistance, acknowledging the limited aid received thus far and hoping for more substantial support, especially from the government.
