  • Kenyan student Jesse Mugambi won Ksh7.5 million prize in Jägermeister’s Save The Night competition
  •  His project, The Studio Can-V, beat other 300 entries from 50 nations to emerge the winner of the grant project, that the beverage drink company was holding
  • The prize money will be used to establish a nightclub and music studio in Kenya, constructed from decommissioned shipping containers in Nairobi

A Kenyan student enrolled at the University of Brighton in the USA is poised to receive a staggering Ksh7.5 million prize as the fortunate winner of Jägermeister’s Save The Night competition, dedicated to backing nightlife initiatives globally.

Jesse Mugambi clinched the coveted win with his project, The Studio Can-V, triumphing over 300 entries from 50 nations.

His achievement will pave the way for the establishment of a nightclub and music studio in Kenya.

The project will receive €50,000 (£39,000) from Jägermeister to help fund the venues, made from decommissioned shipping containers in Nairobi.

The venture, conceived during his undergrad stint at the university, is set to craft a dynamic space that morphs from a daytime hotspot for budding DJs to a pulsating club after dark.

“Having faced challenges in pursuing my own passion for music, I’m driven by the belief that there are countless young and old people longing for opportunities to explore their musical itch,”

The mobile sound sanctuary will be crafted by local artisans in Nairobi using reclaimed shipping containers.

Mr. Mugambi expressed his desire to foster positive change through music, dance, and connection by utilizing indigenous designs that celebrate youth cultural identities.

“Studio Can-V champions inclusivity by amplifying the voices of young DJs from diverse communities, paving the way for a more equitable society. I aim to provide spaces where they can unleash their creativity and pursue their musical aspirations freely.”

He also acknowledged the immense support from friends, mentors, and educators at the University of Brighton, who have played a pivotal role in shaping the project’s journey.

Kai Dechsling, Mast-Jägermeister’s director of global culture and experiential marketing, emphasized the importance of an inclusive and diverse nightlife as a platform for self-expression worldwide, creating safe sanctuaries for all.
