Kiambu Traffic Police Officer Dies After Hit and Run Incident

The body of the fallen officer has been moved to the Kenyatta University Referral Hospital Morgue for preservation.

  • A traffic police officer died in a tragic hit-and-run accident on the night of May 13, 2024, along the Ruiru-Kiambu Road near Quick Mart Supermarket
  • PC James Mulei was struck by a speeding vehicle while on patrol duties and succumbed to his injuries at Plains View Hospital
  • The incident occurred while PC Mulei and his colleague, PC Jeremiah Mukundi, were crossing the road towards Ruiru Town

 Tragedy struck on the night of May 13, 2024, when a hit-and-run accident claimed the life of a Ruiru-based traffic police officer.

The incident occurred around 9:50 PM along the Ruiru-Kiambu Road near the Quick Mart Supermarket.

The officer, identified as Police Constable (PC) James Mulei, service number 66945, was on patrol duty with his colleague, PC Jeremiah Mukundi, service number 259340.

 The two were crossing the road from right to left as they faced the direction of Ruiru Town.

As they reached the lane heading towards Ruiru Town, a speeding vehicle, driven by an unknown individual, struck PC Mulei and sped off towards an unknown destination.

The impact of the collision resulted in PC Mulei sustaining severe injuries, including a head injury and multiple fractures in his left leg.

He was immediately rushed to Plains View Hospital for emergency treatment.

Despite the efforts of medical personnel, PC Mulei was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival at the facility.

Authorities quickly visited and documented the scene of the accident.

The body of the fallen officer has been moved to the Kenyatta University Referral Hospital Morgue for preservation.

The case is currently under investigation, with police actively seeking information about the unknown vehicle and driver involved in the fatal hit-and-run.

 The community is urged to come forward with any information that may assist in apprehending the perpetrator.
