  • Sharon Otieno, a local Kisumu trader, is mourning the disappearance of her 9-month-old baby, who was stolen by a woman known to her
  • The suspect, described as a regular customer, reportedly seized the baby during Ms. Otieno’s brief absence, leaving her in a state of anguish and desperation
  • The baby has been missing for a week now and authorities are investigating the incident

Tragedy struck on Christmas Day in Holo, Kisumu County, when Sharon Otieno, a local second-hand clothes trader, discovered her 9-month-old baby had been stolen—allegedly by a woman she trusted.

Speaking through tears, Ms. Otieno revealed that the suspect, a regular customer, had cunningly timed her absence to carry out the heartbreaking act.

“I never thought someone I knew and welcomed into my life could betray me like this,” she lamented.

The mother of two says she had briefly left her younger son in the care of his 4-year-old sibling while attending to a task. Upon her return, the baby was gone. The shock of finding the house empty still haunts her, she admitted.

“I trusted her. She was always so kind, and I never suspected she had ill intentions,” Ms. Otieno added, describing the suspect as someone she had interacted with often during her daily business.

Desperate for answers, Ms. Otieno reported the incident to local authorities, but weeks later, both the baby and the suspect remain untraced. The silence from the investigation only deepens her despair.

“I just want my baby back,” she pleaded. “This pain is unbearable, and I can’t sleep wondering where he is or how he’s being treated.”

The tragedy has sent shockwaves through the tight-knit Holo community, with many rallying around Ms. Otieno and urging anyone with information to come forward.
