Police are investigating the mysterious death of Peter Kioko Wambua, a 52-year-old passenger, who was discovered unresponsive in a matatu along the Machakos-Koka route.

Wambua had boarded the matatu in Machakos town on the evening of Saturday, May 25, 2024, heading to his rural home in Kamuani.

Before the journey commenced, he informed the conductor of his destination and paid his fare, requesting to be alerted upon arrival at Kamuani.

As the matatu reached Kamuani, the conductor called for passengers intending to alight. When Wambua did not respond, the conductor attempted to wake him, only to find him unresponsive.

Seeking assistance from another passenger, the conductor realized Wambua was dead.

TV 47 reported that Wambua’s body has been moved to Machakos Level Five Hospital mortuary, where it awaits postmortem analysis to determine the cause of death.

This incident adds to a series of tragic events in the region, including recent reports of a 41-year-old suspect who died by suicide in a police cell, a man in Kiambu who strangled his 1-year-old child, and a 32-year-old woman in Makueni who stoned her 82-year-old husband to death over a dispute involving Ksh3000.
