Makueni Man Who Dug Own Grave, Invited Locals for His Burial to Be Enrolled for Counselling

A shocking incident in Kitheuni, Yatta, Machakos County, has left locals reeling after 24-year-old Kamende Ngwili took the extraordinary step of digging his own grave inside his house and inviting neighbors to his funeral, scheduled for January 1, 2025.

The young man’s actions have alarmed the community, prompting local authorities to intervene and arrange counselling services to address his apparent mental health crisis.

The bizarre story came to light when a concerned village elder alerted the area assistant chief on Sunday morning.

Upon visiting Ngwili’s home, the chief found the freshly dug grave and was met with the chilling confirmation that the man had been actively spreading the word about his self-planned burial.

Locals suspect Ngwili’s actions were linked to suicidal intentions, though the details surrounding his mental state remain unclear.

The assistant chief, deeply concerned by the situation, immediately advised him against proceeding with such plans and coordinated efforts to provide the much-needed support.

Residents of Kitheuni expressed both shock and sympathy for Ngwili. “We’ve never seen anything like this before,” said one villager. “It’s clear he’s struggling, and we hope the counselling will help him find peace.”

The local administration has rallied to ensure Ngwili receives professional mental health assistance to prevent further harm.

Authorities are urging families and communities to remain vigilant and supportive of individuals exhibiting signs of distress, emphasizing the importance of seeking help early.
