  • A man in China deliberately crashed his car into his ex-girlfriend and her father in a misguided attempt to rekindle their relationship and avoid repaying a hefty debt
  • Rao, from Guangdong province, orchestrated the collision under the guise of a tragic accident, but his plot unraveled when the truth emerged
  • The young man had during the time of their four-year relationship borrowed over KSh 18M from the lady, and netizens online reacted to the news with disbelief

A man in China deliberately crashed his car into his girlfriend and her father in a misguided attempt to salvage their crumbling relationship.

The man, surnamed Rao, from Guangdong province, believed that staging the collision would help him win back her love and evade repaying the one million yuan (US$140,000) he owed her.

The story, reported by Hongxing News on July 23, has captivated social media with its dramatic and disturbing details.

Rao’s girlfriend, Ke, who is 14 years his junior, had loaned him the money to support his car dealing business.

Despite discovering his infidelity, she remained engaged to him, but their relationship deteriorated when Rao refused to repay the loan unless they stayed together.

In a desperate move, Ke fled to a relative’s home, prompting Rao to concoct a plan to lure her back by promising to sell his assets and return the money.

On November 28, as Ke and her father traveled to meet Rao, their electric bike was struck by a car driven by Rao’s friend, Xiao.

The impact left Ke with minor injuries, while her father suffered serious wounds requiring surgery. Initially, Rao’s presence at the hospital and his care for the victims appeared genuine, but the truth soon emerged.

Police revealed that Rao had orchestrated the crash, hiding in the back seat while Xiao handled the aftermath.

The revelation that the accident was a criminal act, rather than a random occurrence, left Ke devastated and betrayed.

Rao and Xiao now face jail time for their roles in the planned collision.

Public sentiment has been overwhelmingly critical, with many condemning the act as an intentional attempted killing.

“This is not a car accident, but an intentional attempted killing,” one commenter stated, while another remarked, “The case is more dramatic than a television drama.”
