  • Bishop Muthee Kiengei caused a stir yesterday by urging worshippers to prioritize helping their struggling family members over making offerings
  • He criticized those who contribute to the church while their parents suffer in the village, calling for compassion and responsibility
  • His bold message sparked mixed reactions, with some praising his leadership while others said even Jesus himself never turned down offerings

Yesterday, Bishop Muthee Kiengei of JCM Church delivered a bold message, urging his congregation to prioritize supporting their struggling family members over making offerings to the church.

His advice, which many pastors rarely touch on, sparked mixed reactions from worshippers.

Bishop Kiengei expressed concern for those who contribute financially to the church while their parents suffer back home.

“You are there singing, ‘I won’t leave here until you bless me.’

Stop this childishness and return to the village. I don’t want your offering; I have food at home and have paid fees for my kids. Send that money to your mom,” he declared, urging worshippers to rethink their priorities.

He reminded the congregation, “No one has ever become poor by giving. Our human compassion binds us to one another… turning our common suffering into hope for the future,” emphasizing the need for responsibility.

The sermon stirred various reactions from the crowd. Esther Ndiritu expressed admiration, saying, “God bless you, Bishop. I urge all bishops to emulate you.”

Similarly, Kijana Ocs Masling praised the bishop for delivering a “truly compassionate Gospel.”

However, Gakuru George offered a different perspective, suggesting, “It’s good to listen to the other side of the story from the children,” acknowledging that not all situations are simple.

Despite differing views, Bishop Kiengei’s message was widely appreciated, with some congregants pledging to take his words to heart.

Wamaitha Wa Kaby, inspired by the sermon, expressed her intention to give back by volunteering to teach Sunday school.

The sermon has set off waves of conversation in the community, as Bishop Kiengei’s bold call for compassion and responsibility challenges traditional practices in the church.
