Onesmus Kipchumba Murkomen has publicly apologized for his perceived opulence and flashy lifestyle, coinciding with his nomination by President William Ruto as the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports.

Reflecting on his conduct, Murkomen took to social media to address Kenyans directly, expressing regret for his actions during his tenure as the Transport and Roads CS.

“The last two weeks have been moments of deep reflection. I would like to unreservedly apologize to every Kenyan who I may have offended through my words, my deeds, and my conduct, including my lifestyle, in the last two years of my public service,” Murkomen stated in a message on X (formerly Twitter).

This apology follows significant criticism from Gen Z and other citizens who accused some public servants of wasting public resources and living extravagantly.

Murkomen’s acknowledgment of these criticisms and his pledge to change marks a notable shift in his approach to public service.

Murkomen also took the opportunity to express his gratitude to President Ruto for the new appointment. “I thank President Ruto for this incredible opportunity to serve our great nation, Kenya,” he said.

He emphasized his readiness to serve diligently and with great accountability, should he be approved by the National Assembly.

“Subject to my approval by Parliament, I pledge to serve the people of Kenya diligently, with great humility and unwavering accountability,” Murkomen assured.
