Nyandarua Polytechnic Community Shattered by Fatal Motorbike Accident Involving Two Students

The tight-knit community of Nyandarua National Polytechnic is in shock and mourning after a tragic accident claimed the lives of two students.

On the evening of Thursday, October 17, 2024, three students were involved in a grisly boda boda (motorbike) accident that left one dead at the scene and the other two hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.

Sadly, one of the hospitalized students later passed away while receiving treatment.

The accident, which has shaken the polytechnic to its core, involved Stephen Njuru Mwangi, a promising Mechanical Engineering student, and Joseph Macharia Kimani, who was pursuing studies in the Building and Civil Aviation Department.

While their dreams were cut short, their memory is already leaving a profound impact on classmates and faculty alike.

According to reports from the chief principal’s office, the motorbike accident took place along a busy road near the polytechnic, raising concerns about road safety for students commuting in the area.

The polytechnic management, in their heartfelt statement, emphasized the gravity of the loss while offering condolences to the bereaved families and calling for enhanced safety measures.

The surviving student, who remains hospitalized, is currently under medical supervision, with the entire institution rallying behind her recovery.

“This is a dark moment for the Nyandarua National Polytechnic. We have lost bright, young individuals whose futures were full of promise. We extend our deepest sympathies to the families and friends of Stephen and Joseph. We also pray for the swift recovery of the injured student,” read part of the statement from the polytechnic.

As the institution grapples with this tragedy, students and staff are encouraged to seek emotional support from the polytechnic’s counseling services.

Plans for a memorial service to honor the lives of Stephen and Joseph are underway, with further details expected to be announced soon.

The tragedy has reignited calls for better safety regulations for boda boda operators, particularly in areas with heavy student populations.

The incident serves as a somber reminder of the importance of road safety awareness and responsible riding.

The institution remains hopeful for the swift recovery of the surviving student and continues to offer its full support to those affected by the accident.
