Omanyala Finishes Fifth As USA’s Bednarek Wins Gold In Kip Keino Classic

  • Kenneth Bednarek, the Olympic 200m silver medalist from the USA, won gold in the 100m event at the fifth edition of the Kip Keino Classic held at the Nyayo National Stadium
  • He clocked an impressive 9.91 seconds, outshining a strong field of competitors
  • In a disappointing turn for the home crowd, Bednarek surpassed African and Commonwealth 100m champion Ferdinand Omanyala, who finished fifth with a time of 10.03 seconds

American sprinter Kenneth Bednarek showcased his dominance at the Kip Keino Classic held at the Nyayo National Stadium, claiming gold in the 100m showdown.

 Bednarek, the Olympic 200m silver medalist, clocked an impressive 9.91 seconds, leaving his competitors in his wake.

Despite competing on home soil, African and Commonwealth 100m champion Ferdinand Omanyala failed to secure a podium finish, settling for fifth place with a time of 10.03 seconds.

The disappointment continued for the Kenyan contingent as Mark Otieno Odhiambo finished in sixth place with a time of 10.22 seconds.

Liberian star Emmanuael Matadi secured the silver medal with a time of 9.99 seconds, while Great Britain’s Azu Jeremiah claimed the bronze in 10.00 seconds.

Bednarek, who had previously won silver in the last edition, expressed his satisfaction with his performance, noting Omanyala as a worthy rival.

Meanwhile, in the 800m race, world silver medalist Emmanuel Wanyonyi clinched gold with a time of 1:43.57, setting the stage for his preparations for the upcoming Paris Olympics.

Wanyonyi, who rose to prominence after winning the World U20 title in Nairobi in 2021, expressed his gratitude to God for his victory and his optimism for the Olympics.
