President Ruto Announces Major KDF Appointments, Promotes Top Officers

  • President William Ruto announced major appointments and promotions within the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF)
  • Some of the appointments include Major General Stephen James Mutuku as Deputy Commandant of the National Defence College
  • Several colonels have been elevated to the rank of Brigadier, with new roles such as Chief of Personnel, Commander of the Combat Engineers Brigade, and Chief of Naval Medical Services

President William Ruto on Wednesday announced a series of promotions and new postings for several officers in what is significant reshuffle within the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).

The changes, effective immediately, were made following consultations with Acting Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and the Defence Council.

Key Appointments and Promotions in the Kenya Army

Among the notable appointments, Major General Stephen James Mutuku was named Deputy Commandant of the National Defence College. Several colonels were promoted to the rank of Brigadier, taking on significant new roles:

Colonel Edward Morris Ondabu Nyamao was promoted to Brigadier and appointed Chief of Compensation and Welfare (DHQ).

Colonel Collins Otieno Mitok was promoted to Brigadier and appointed Chief of Personnel (HQ KA).

Colonel Paul Kiplimo Koech was promoted to Brigadier and appointed Chief of Training.

Colonel Clement Kimaiga Nyakundi was promoted to Brigadier and appointed Deputy Managing Director of the Kenya Meat Commission.

Colonel Victor Ndegwa Mburu was promoted to Brigadier and appointed Commander of the Combat Engineers Brigade.

Colonel Eric Nzioki Kitusya was promoted to Brigadier and appointed Chief of Logistics (HQ KA).

Colonel Salaash Kantai was promoted to Brigadier and appointed Commander of the Military Intelligence Corps.

Colonel Edward Willy Banda was promoted to Brigadier and appointed Brigade Commander of the 8 Brigade.

Colonel Jackson Lesaiyo Lemakara was promoted to Brigadier and appointed Commander of Embakasi Garrison.

Colonel (Dr) Charles Ondego Ochieng was promoted to Brigadier and appointed Chief of Naval Medical Services.

Colonel Yusuf Hussein Adan was promoted to Brigadier and appointed Chief of Communication Information System (DHQ).

Lieutenant Colonel (Rev) Jane Wairimu Muringi was promoted to Colonel and appointed Service Chaplain.

Strategic Moves in the Kenya Air Force

The Kenya Air Force also saw significant promotions and appointments:

Colonel Bernard Markie Oluoch was promoted to Brigadier and appointed Base Commander of Moi Air Base.

Colonel Eutychus Ndegwa Nyawira was promoted to Brigadier and appointed Head of Training Support and Research at the National Defence College.

Colonel Nehemiah Kemei was promoted to Brigadier and appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Defence SACCO.

Lieutenant Colonel Mercy Wairimu Kamau was promoted to Colonel for Finance and Audit at the Defence National Security Industries.
