Recent revelations indicate that passengers aboard the ill-fated Kensilver Bus, which tragically crashed hours ago at Nithi, urgently sought assistance before the bus careened down the treacherous incline.

Witnesses from Marima, the neighboring slope preceding the notorious Nithi descent, informed Gaaru TV that they observed passengers stretching out of windows, expressing alarm at the nerve-racking velocity of the vehicle.

In a video shared on the outlet’s Facebook page, witnesses recounted harrowing accounts before and after the accident.

One described seeing passengers peering out anxiously, while others lamented the driver not hearing them out.

Despite their pleas, the witness narrated how the bus continued hurtling at breakneck speed, only to falter in braking as it approached the steep Nithi hill, culminating in the tragic accident.

Four individuals—two men, a woman, and a child—have been confirmed dead, with concerns looming over the possibility of further casualties due to the extensive number of serious injuries sustained.

The injured have been swiftly transported to the recently upgraded Chuka Level Four Hospital and P.C.E.A Chogoria Hospital.

County rescue services manager Alex Mugambi affirmed that the bus, carrying 39 passengers from the Maua area in Meru county, reportedly experienced brake failure.

Earlier, Tharaka Nithi county police commander Zacchaeus Ngeno verified the accident, expressing fear over the potential loss of lives and numerous injuries.

What Else Did Eyewitnesses Report?

Since the incident occurred around noon, numerous local media outlets have rushed to the scene, interviewing eyewitnesses who recounted chilling details.

Many remembered the driver’s audacity, opting to steer the bus into a ditch rather than hurtle downwards without brakes, risking a collision with the perilous bridge where a modern coast bus claimed 37 lives.

Another rescuer described the gruesome aftermath, witnessing the body of a child, decapitated, being rushed into an ambulance.

He noted the area’s notorious reputation, recalling a recent incident where a bus full of students narrowly escaped a similar fate.

He urged Kipchumba Murkomen to intensify efforts in reducing the escalating accidents, placing blame on leaders for the current predicament.
