  • Six ODM MPs who voted ‘yes’ on the controversial Finance Bill, 2024, are now facing recall processes initiated by their own party
  • ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna accused the MPs of betraying their constituents and violating their oaths of office
  • This move comes amid heightened political tension and public protests against President William Ruto’s administration

Six ODM MPs who voted ‘yes’ on the controversial Finance Bill, 2024, are now facing recall processes initiated by their own party.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) announced this drastic measure, accusing the MPs of betraying their constituents by disregarding their wishes.

ODM Secretary General and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna highlighted that the MPs—Elisha Odhiambo (Gem), Gideon Ochanda (Bondo), Emmanuel Wangwe (Navakholo), Elijah Kanchory (Kajiado Central), Bernard Shinali (Ikolomani), and Caroli Omondi (Suba South)—violated their oaths of office.

“Their actions reflect a disregard for the electorate’s mandate,” Sifuna stated.

This announcement comes amid heightened political tension and public protests against President William Ruto’s administration.

Sifuna condemned the government’s heavy-handed response to demonstrators, which has led to 39 deaths and 361 injuries, as reported by the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR).

Additionally, Sifuna urged the Independent Policing and Oversight Authority (IPOA) to investigate allegations of police brutality and abductions during the protests.

“We must hold the regime accountable for the violence against peaceful protesters,” he demanded, emphasizing ODM’s stance against corruption and advocating for greater government accountability.
