  • Wol Dut Anguei, a South Sudanese entrepreneur, has intervened to aid his former friend, whom he found in distress on the streets.
  • The businessman reflected on his estranged friend’s downward spiral following injuries sustained during the 2013 Sudan War, resulting in mental health challenges.
  • Images shared by the businessman on Facebook show his former acquaintance initially appearing disheveled, clad in dirty clothes and standing shirtless, alongside Wol, who had come to his rescue.

Wol Dut Anguei, a South Sudanese businessman, has stepped in to assist his old friend, whom he encountered in a distressed state on the streets.

Reflecting on their past friendship before the Sudanese war of 2013 disrupted their lives, Wol said he was sorry to see his former friend in such a bad state and that he is now on a mission to restore his well-being.

He explained that Wol also served as a comrade-in-arms and empathized that he was sorry that he had to experience challenges wrought by the war firsthand.

The businessman recounted how his estranged friend’s life took a tragic turn after sustaining gun injuries during the devastating Sudan War of 2013, leading to mental health issues.

Shared images on Facebook depict the former friend initially appearing disheveled, wearing dirty clothes, and standing shirtless, alongside his businessman acquaintance who had come to his aid.

Wol recounted taking his friend to the esteemed Prophet Ayual, urging him to pray for Kiir’s well-being as part of his mission to restore light to Kiir’s life.

He added that Prophet Ayual assured him of Kiir’s mental recovery, and true to his word, Kiir soon regained his mental health, prompting praise for the prophet’s healing abilities.

Wol, urging the people of Division Eight who knew the man to join in prayer and share the post for wider support, pledged to personally oversee the remaining steps of taking his friend to the hospital to ensure his complete recovery.

Here is the caption that Wol had on the Facebook post:

Devastating Bor war of 2013

The Battle of Bor was one of the first battles of the South Sudanese Civil War, consisting of a series of clashes for the city of Bor, the capital of Jonglei State.

While the exact number of fatalities during the initial days of the 2013 war remains uncertain, a report indicates that a staggering 383,000 individuals have lost their lives in South Sudan since the onset of the civil war in December 2013, up to April 2018.

According to the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), about half of the fatalities have resulted directly from related violence, while the other half of the deaths resulted from indirect effects of the civil war, including the inadequate provision of health services, displacement, and food insecurity.

Further violent incidents are likely in South Sudan in the near-term
