Devastating Bor war of 2013
The Battle of Bor was one of the first battles of the South Sudanese Civil War, consisting of a series of clashes for the city of Bor, the capital of Jonglei State.
While the exact number of fatalities during the initial days of the 2013 war remains uncertain, a report indicates that a staggering 383,000 individuals have lost their lives in South Sudan since the onset of the civil war in December 2013, up to April 2018.
According to the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), about half of the fatalities have resulted directly from related violence, while the other half of the deaths resulted from indirect effects of the civil war, including the inadequate provision of health services, displacement, and food insecurity.
Further violent incidents are likely in South Sudan in the near-term
