  • A viral video showing moment striking doctors advised high school students not to pursue medicine has wreaked havoc on the internet
  • The clip shows a doctor passionately demeaning his occupation, before discouraging some neatly dressed students against pursuing the revered career
  • The students appeared taken aback by his revelation before stepping aside to allow space for the medics to rant out

A viral video featuring striking doctors advising high school students they encountered during a protest not to pursue medicine has gained widespread attention.

Health care workers stage a protest during the ongoing doctors’ strike in Kenya.

The footage shows a doctor, still in his professional attire, passionately addressing a group of students after school hours.

The students appear stunned by the revelation, as seen in the viral clip, and they step away to give space to the protesting medics.

The video has sparked mixed reactions regarding the potential impact of such advice, leading to discussions among Kenyans.

While many express bitterness over the government’s refusal to increase pay and initiate payment for interns, they argue that advising students against pursuing medicine is highly misguided.

This video emerges after weeks of intense strikes by doctors demanding higher payments and government support for interns.

However, doctors have remained steadfast in their strike, insisting they will not cease until the government meets their demands.

Kenya Medical Association President, Dr. Simon Kigondu, announced plans to mobilize private doctors employed in private hospitals to join the nationwide strike, aiming to pressure the government into action.

In contrast, doctors in Tharaka Nithi County have returned to work following a call from Governor Muthomi Njuki not to participate in the nationwide strike and focus on the counties gruelling healthcare needs.
