Subukia: Five Dead after Timber Truck Veers Off Course, Strikes Boda Boda, Passersby

  • Five people lost their lives, and several others were injured in a tragic road accident on the Nakuru-Nyahururu highway in Subukia yesterday night
  • This is after a timber-laden cargo truck struck two individuals riding a boda boda before careening off the road, hitting passersby in its path
  • Disturbing photos circulating on social media show the truck overturned, with timber logs scattered across the road, and the wrecked motorbike crushed beneath the heavy logs

Five lives were tragically lost, and several others sustained serious injuries in a devastating road accident on Tuesday night in Subukia, Nakuru County.

The accident occurred when a cargo truck, heavily loaded with timber, lost control, veering off the Nakuru-Nyahururu highway.

It first struck two people on a boda boda before careening off the road and plowing into unsuspecting passersby.

Norman Macharia, the chief of Subukia, confirmed the incident and described the scene as chaotic.

“The truck lost direction and caused immense destruction, leaving behind a trail of injured and lifeless victims,” he said.

The injured were rushed to local hospitals, and the bodies of the deceased were taken to the Nakuru County morgue for identification and post-mortem examinations.

Photos of the aftermath have since surfaced on social media, showing the overturned truck with massive timber logs scattered across the highway.

In one chilling image, the heavy poles lay atop a wrecked motorbike, a stark reminder of the boda boda victims’ fate.

Dozens of locals milled around the crash site, their expressions marked by shock and grief, as authorities worked to clear the debris and restore order.

The scene also descended into chaos as residents and onlookers crowded the area, some attempting to assist while others lamented the frequent accidents along the Nakuru-Nyahururu highway.

Witnesses decried the lack of proper safety measures and called for government intervention to investigate the increasing number of crashes on this notorious stretch of road.

This tragedy has reignited calls for enhanced traffic safety measures, with residents urging authorities to prioritize stricter enforcement of regulations and road maintenance.

“We’ve seen too many accidents here recently,” one local said. “The government must act before more lives are lost.”

The Subukia incident has left the community in mourning, with many struggling to come to terms with the devastating loss of lives and the injuries inflicted on their neighbors and loved ones.

Authorities have pledged to investigate the cause of the accident and take necessary action to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
