Tanzanian opposition leader Ali Kibao, who had been missing for days, was found dead with his face disfigured by acid.
Kibao, a senior official of the CHADEMA party, was abducted by armed men while traveling on a bus from Dar es Salaam to Tanga.
His lifeless body, showing signs of brutal beatings and a vicious acid attack, was found on Saturday, plunging the nation into outrage.

Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, who had begun lifting restrictions on opposition parties in an effort to promote a more democratic environment, swiftly condemned the killing.
In a statement posted on X, she declared that her administration “does not condone such acts” and called for an immediate investigation.
Yet, for many in the opposition, the damage has already been done, with concerns mounting over their safety.

Freeman Mbowe, leader of CHADEMA, expressed his sorrow, urging the president to form a special commission to investigate Kibao’s death.
He called it an assassination meant to instill fear and silence critics. “This is a targeted killing. We demand nothing less than full justice,” Mbowe stated.
