The police officer who was assaulted while on duty in Kasarani, Nairobi, has chosen to forgive the 19 year old motorist responsible for the brutal attack.
Officer Corporal Ogendo expressed his willingness to forgive Ian Njoroge after intervention by former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko.
A phone call recording released by Sonko on June 5, 2024, revealed Ogendo’s interest in reconciling with Njoroge’s family.
Ogendo stated, “Even though I am hurt, I will agree to forgive him,” and he mentioned a desire for the family to publicly apologize to both him and the national police service.

The incident, which has sparked widespread concern, led to Njoroge’s arrest and subsequent charges of robbery with violence, assault, and resisting arrest.
These charges were brought against him at the Milimani Law Courts, where he appeared before Magistrate Ben Mark Ekhubi.

During the court hearing on June 4, Njoroge denied all charges, despite allegations from the defense that Ogendo had requested a bribe of Ksh10,000 during the incident.
The prosecution, led by the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), pushed for Njoroge’s detention to allow further investigation, which the court granted.
Njoroge is accused of stealing a police communication gadget and a phone worth Ksh50,000 from Corporal Ogendo and causing him serious harm.

He is currently being held at Industrial Area prison for medical assessment at Kenyatta Hospital.
As part of the reconciliation process, Ogendo has expressed a desire to meet with Njoroge’s family for a formal apology and reconciliation, marking a significant step towards resolving the conflict peacefully.
