  • Angry villagers in Nyabeda, Yala, set two houses ablaze after the body of 7-year-old Michael Owino Alumba, who had gone missing, was discovered dumped in the bush
  • The boy’s death was linked to Evans Odeny Odhiambo, 28, who had allegedly clashed with Michael’s family after being caught stealing bananas
  • Authorities have launched a manhunt for Odhiambo while urging residents to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands

A storm of anger swept through Nyabeda sublocation, Yala subcounty, after the body of 7-year-old Michael Owino Alumba was discovered dumped in the bush.

The young boy had gone missing on Wednesday evening, his family left in agony as the search for him intensified. By Thursday, their worst fears were confirmed, plunging the village into grief and outrage.

Fingers quickly pointed at 28-year-old Evans Odeny Odhiambo, a man allegedly embroiled in an earlier altercation with the boy’s family.

Authorities revealed that Odhiambo had been caught stealing bananas from Michael’s father’s farm and was sternly warned to stay away.

Assistant Chief Tom Aruwa confirmed the incident, urging calm amid the chaos. “We understand the pain and outrage, but taking the law into your own hands will not bring justice,” he cautioned.

A manhunt for the suspect is now underway, as police conduct investigations and a postmortem is prepared to determine the exact cause of the boy’s death.
