Beth Linet, the girlfriend of Derrick, a Kenyan man seen in a viral video drowning in Diani, has shared heartfelt photos of the two enjoying themselves just hours before the tragic incident.

The couple had gone to Diani for a short vacation, but their trip ended in grief after Derrick drowned in the Indian Ocean due to powerful waves that hit the coastal town.

A video first surfaced showing Derrick struggling helplessly in the heavy waves as they grew stronger and ultimately overpowered him.

The video has since sparked a heated online debate, with many questioning why those recording didn’t step in to help or why Derrick ventured into the ocean despite the dangerous conditions.

In a revelation just hours after the news of his drowning spread, Beth posted a video of them playing on the shore, enjoying the waves as they began to gain intensity.

She later revealed that a marine officer had warned them to stay away from the ocean as the waves were getting bigger and stronger.

It remains unclear whether Derrick missed the warning or what exactly transpired, as hours later, a heartbreaking video emerged showing him being tossed around by the waves before ultimately disappearing beneath the water.

Beth Linet Shares Photos from Hours Before the Incident

In a poignant post on TikTok, Beth expressed disbelief that she would be returning home from Diani alone.

She shared sweet photos of the couple sunbathing just hours before Derrick’s untimely death.

The photos show Derrick dressed in a singlet vest and dotted shorts, while Beth wore a pink swimsuit and a see-through kimono.

The images capture the couple happily enjoying fresh coconut juice (madafu) and chasing each other on the beach, blissfully unaware of the tragedy that awaited them.

Social media users have since joined Beth in mourning, sharing their own stories of loved ones who were overpowered by the waves and met similar fates.
