Elaine Foo, 49, has bravely shared her harrowing experience after a series of failed leg-lengthening surgeries left her with severe mobility issues and ongoing pain.
Since 2016, Elaine has undergone five surgeries and three bone grafts, depleting her life savings and leading to a legal battle against her surgeon, Jean-Marc Guichet, which was settled in July without an admission of liability.
Elaine’s journey began with hopes of increasing her height from 5ft 2in to 5ft 5in but turned into a nightmare of excruciating pain and complications.

Her ordeal included a metal nail breaking through her bone and severe bone growth issues, causing significant distress.
Initially, Elaine felt hopeful as she awoke from surgery with no pain, but this relief was short-lived as she experienced severe discomfort, likening it to being “roasted from the inside.”
As the lengthening process continued, Elaine faced multiple setbacks, including the nail breaking through her femur and a lack of bone growth in her right leg.

Despite additional surgeries and expensive treatments in Milan, her condition did not improve as hoped.
Elaine’s struggles were compounded by financial strain and deteriorating communication with Dr. Guichet, further exacerbating her distress.
In July 2017, Elaine sought help from an NHS specialist, who informed her that full recovery could take up to five years.
