After serving Kenya Power for an impressive 35 years, Eng. Charles Mwaura, the outgoing General Manager of Network Management, bid a heartfelt farewell to the company on Friday, May 31, 2024.
The colorful send-off ceremony, attended by dozens of staff members, took place at Stima Club in Nairobi.
Eng. Mwaura made a grand entrance atop a live-line truck, embodying his dedication to the job right up to his final moments.

Amid cheers from his colleagues, he ceremoniously handed over his work equipment, including his reflector jacket and helmet, symbolizing the end of an era.
Known affectionately as ‘Papa’ for his fatherly and humble approach, Eng. Mwaura’s career at Kenya Power spanned several decades, primarily in the Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Division.

After completing a two-year graduate engineer apprenticeship, he began his journey in O&M’s emergency services and later became the Common Services Engineer, managing underground cables and the 66kV sub-transmission network in Nairobi.
Eng. Mwaura’s expertise and leadership saw him rise through the ranks to become the Chief Engineer of Common Services in Nairobi.
In 2014, he was appointed the Regional Manager for the Nairobi North Region and eventually ascended to the role of General Manager of Network Management in December 2019, a position he held until his retirement.

Throughout his illustrious career, Eng. Mwaura was instrumental in pioneering Liveline operations in distribution and sub-transmission networks.
He also served as the Chairman of the Status of the Network Committee, a key energy sector body. Renowned as the most experienced engineer in underground cables, he significantly enhanced the network’s capacity, equipping it to handle voltages up to 220kV. =
